Karndean Commercial, a leading name in luxury vinyl flooring (LVT), is set to highlight the transformative role of inclusive design in commercial interiors at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025. With its immersive showcase, Designing for the Senses, the brand will explore how neurodiverse design principles can be applied through flooring to create more accessible, supportive environments.
Taking place from 20–22 May 2025 in London’s renowned Clerkenwell design district, the event is the UK’s premier platform for the latest in architecture, interior design, and product innovation. Karndean Commercial’s exhibit, hosted at its Clerkenwell Green showroom, is poised to become a focal point for professionals seeking to better understand the intersection of flooring, sensory design, and inclusive commercial environments.
Designing for the Senses aims to reframe how commercial flooring can support neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and sensory processing disorders—as well as people affected by neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
The installation will feature a curated selection of Karndean’s commercial LVT flooring, blending neutral, calming tones with bold, dynamic patterns and varied textural finishes. These combinations are specifically designed to:
By engaging both visual and tactile senses, the showcase illustrates how thoughtful flooring design can enhance not just aesthetics and durability, but also inclusivity and user experience.
Richard Allen, Commercial Sales Director at Karndean Commercial, explained:
“One in seven people in the UK are neurodivergent and experience the world differently. As designers and suppliers of commercial flooring, we have a responsibility to consider all users. Through sensory-aware flooring, we can create neuro-inclusive spaces that meet practical needs while enhancing mental wellbeing.”
He added:
“By accounting for both hypersensitive and hyposensitive responses, our designs not only fulfil the functional demands of commercial interiors but also contribute positively to how people feel and function within those spaces.”
Karndean’s participation in Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 underscores the brand’s commitment to innovation and its role in advancing universal design standards. With inclusive design becoming a growing priority in architecture and interior design, Designing for the Senses invites the industry to view LVT flooring as more than a surface—but as a strategic tool to empower inclusivity, comfort, and wellbeing in any commercial space.
